Proprietą ottiche
The transmissive wavelength range of quartz glass depends on the
respective material and lies between 180 and 3500 nm. Whereas
the absorption at the UV edge is reduced to the lifting of
electrons to the conduction band, the radiation energy in the
long-wave range is converted to lattice vibrations. Various
harmonics of the vibration statuses of the SiO4 tetrahedrons can
be detected from approx. 3.500 nm, before total absorption
starts at approx. 4.000 nm. The width of the transmission window
depends on the impurities present. Metallic foreign matter
displaces the UV absorption edge towards higher wavelengths,
whereas water causes absorption bands near the IR edge. The
strongest IR absorption lies at 2730 nm and corresponds to the
O-H vibration. |
